Well hi there,
I'm Alyssa
I'm your local curl specialist who’s been behind the chair since 2017. My love for curls is deeply personal and goes all the way back to my childhood. Growing up with curly hair, I did what so many of us did: I relaxed and straightened it because I didn’t know how to manage it. That all changed in the summer of 2015 when I stopped relaxing my hair — and by 2017, I ditched the flat iron, too. I was frustrated, overwhelmed, and didn’t know where to start, so I booked my first curly cut — and the rest is history.

In 2018, I earned my first DevaCurl certification in Manhattan, New York. I kept learning and growing, taking advanced curl education like the Rezo Academy in Chicago in November 2020, along with countless other specialized classes. Understanding curls is more than just technique — I know firsthand the emotional side of it, too. That’s why I love what I do: helping women feel seen, celebrated, and confident in their natural texture. Over the years, I’ve built my business around curls alone — from tight curls to beautiful coils — and it’s truly my passion. I spent 2023–2024 in Nashville working at some incredible salons, gaining even more knowledge and inspiration. As of September 2025, I’m so excited to be back serving the Greater West Michigan area again! While I specialize in custom curl services and tight textures, I’m also expanding into curly bridal styling — because your curls deserve to shine on your biggest days, too.
5 Fun Facts About Me

Guilty pleasure: Definitely reality tv. I’ve rewatched Vanderpump Rules and Jersey Shore more times than I can count (and yes, my husband loves it just as much as I do — or so I tell myself!).
Beach, city, or country?: Beach, always!
Favorite Starbucks order: I love a complicated iced coffee . Normally my order is 1 pump chai, 1 pump hazelnut, splash of cream, light ice, and cinnamon powder. Annoying? Maybe. Delicious? Yes, for sure.
Favorite season: In Tennessee, it was fall all the way. In Michigan, summer might win!
Favorite curl product: Okay, this quesiton was tough, but it's toss-up between DevaCurl Melt Into Moisture or Innersense I Create Hold — I swear by both!
Bucket list: Traveling to Europe, especially Greece and Croatia, is at the top of my list.

FOLLOW ME

I didn’t always love my hair — in fact, I spent years fighting against it. Like many of my clients, I grew up without real guidance on how to care for curls. I tried everything under the sun, damaging my hair in the process just to make it feel “manageable.” I never saw my texture celebrated, and I felt disconnected from it.

In my family, relaxers were the norm. My aunts were consistent users, and for my mom — who was trying her best — it felt easier to follow that same path. So, relaxers became a routine part of my life, too.

Once I got into high school, my desire to keep my hair straight only grew stronger. And honestly? I think it’s pretty normal to want to look like the people around you. I was surrounded by beautiful girls with silky, bone-straight hair. So with the help of Sally’s extensions and a flat iron, I did my best to disguise my natural texture — chasing that sleek, soft, straight look.

But no matter how hard I tried to kill the frizz and flatten the curl, it always came back. And don’t even get me started on the panic of water touching my hair. Yikes.
Of course, now you know what I do for a living — and clearly, you can see my curls. So what changed?

Perspective. And education.
Not professional education (not yet). Just the kind that comes from learning how to actually manage my own hair, for myself.

Real Experience

and then...
It all sort of clicked after my first DevaCut — though to be honest, I wasn’t exactly thrilled at the time. I had just cut off over six inches of hair. It felt so short, so curly (or at least what I thought was curly back then). My extensions were gone, and deep down I knew: if I wanted this system to actually work for my hair, I had to fully commit. That meant no more heat.

The only thing I truly held onto in those early days was a vision — and a little ounce of hope that my hair would get better.

So I stayed disciplined. I invested in my hair care. I didn’t take shortcuts. I let go of the idea of what “good hair” was supposed to be.

Now? I can honestly say that my hair is my favorite feature.
My hair tells a story of growth, patience, and choosing to accept myself. And I’m walking proof that this system works: if I can do it, and commit to the process, then I promise you can too.

Now, my job, and my honor is to help you on your own journey. What a full-circle moment!
